The text of my speech from the floor of the Senate today. I will take a moment to ... well ... pray ... that the majority of the chamber actually moves on this. My hopes are not high.

I'm not the only scientist running for Congress. And really, you should elect all of us.

Tonight, a good thing happened and I'm looking forward to welcoming our newest senator from Alabama.

Last night, there were victories of leadership all over the country. Last count ... I think four trans people won seats. And people of color were elected left and right for mayor and governor positions. A man who lost his girlfriend to gun violence won a seat after running a gun control based campaign. People campaigned actively on abortion rights ( Read more... )

This week, my students are learning about the physics of firearms, the speed of bullets, and the science behind the carnage.

We'll get back to textbooks next week. This week, we have other things to talk about.
